About Tautphaus Park

Tautphaus Park spreads across about 76 acres on South Boulevard in Idaho Falls, with the Butte Arm Canal running along it. A skate park, tennis and basketball courts, a ball field and a multi-use field cover the active side, and there's a playground, a shade structure, a pavilion and picnic tables. Walking and bike trails, restrooms and parking are there as well.

Rental options

Pick the shelter in the city's Rec1 catalog and pay by card online (you need an account), or book by phone with the Recreation Center at (208) 612-8580, or in person at 520 Memorial Dr.

Listed prices are not checkout totals. Confirm rental duration, resident eligibility, fees and deposits before paying. Rental times are Mountain time.

Sales tax is added to the $110 day rate. Groups over 50 people pay a $50 impact fee, and groups over 100 pay $100. City residents who carry the free Resident Discount Card (issued at the Recreation Center with proof of address and photo ID) get a lower rate, but the city doesn't publish the discounted shelter price.

Before booking

  • A standard booking is capped at 100 people; bigger groups go through the Special Events Coordinator at (208) 612-8580.
  • Put your setup arrival time and leave time, cleanup included, in the booking notes so the shelter is cleaned before you arrive.
  • Shelters are rented April through October. April openings depend on the weather, and a heavy snow year can push them back.
  • Bookings for the next season open in November and are taken in the order they come in. You pay in full when you book.
  • A shelter nobody has booked is open to anyone, first come, first served. The city only guarantees a cleaning before paid bookings.
  • Groups expecting more than 100 people need the city's special event application.
  • Alcohol is allowed only in certain city parks, under the city code's park alcohol rules.
  • City parks are closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
